  Before viewing the magazines, I had already decided on that media for my project.   I enjoy films and admire them, but a magazine is a better fit for me personally.   One of the occupations I have considered is working for a magazine, either as an editor or writer. My interest in magazines was also helped by  m y grandma giving hers to me over the years after she read them.   More recently, I have become very familiar with the magazines owned by Conde Nast, particularly Vogue.   I have been subscribed for almost a year and look forward to receiving it in the mail.   I cannot afford most of the items in it and do not wish to be a fashion model or designer, but I am drawn to the stunning combinations of words and visuals.   As much as I admire and celebrate technology, I continue to cling to the tangible written word.   I strongly wish for physical books and magazines to be preserved.   I also find it concerning how short our attention...

     I enjoyed analyzing a small part of each film, examining the purposeful details.   Besides Lion King, I had not seen any of the movies we watched but gained knowledge on each one just by watching the first few minutes. The combination of the first sound and first visual are extremely important to a film.   It is a precursor to what is to follow and sets the tone and mood, much like the first sentence or paragraph in a literary piece.         For example,  2001: A Space Odyssey  begins with a black screen and a single dissonant note that grows and fades.   The blank screen represents the unknown, the great expanse.   When the viewer finally sees the sun emerging, followed by planets and animals, it gives them a sense of discovery and birth, the beginning.   The theme of science and evolution is already established.
