      I spent today putting the finishing touches on my project. There are many aspects of it I have made changes to or realized this past week of piecing it together. I learned a lot about colors- both how to paint them better and how to get the exact shade I want on InDesign.  I like all the different shades I have going on throughout the pages.  I am still a bit annoyed with the way the cover looks, but I really like how the feature article pages turned out.      As for the feature article, I really enjoyed the process of writing it.  I learned a lot, contemplating its subject and through the interview correspondence.  It got a bit long, but I honed it in and focused on the most important points and best pieces.  As I stated in a previous blog post, I talked to two different people, but I decided to exclude the part of the psychologist.  She gave me some of the ideas contained, but I did not have exact quotes like with Reiki...

      I have made tremendous progress on my project the past week but I have not documented it as much as I should have as I got caught up in the work itself.  I have learned,  as I do almost any time I paint or work on a project, how to be patient.  I finished the cover photo as well as the photo for the second page of the feature article.   I also did the small photos for the content page but I did not put that page below as I have not yet scanned it in.  I have not decided if I want to add something else next to the cherry blossom tree branch because it actually did take up less space then I thought (i.e. horizontally).     I am happy with how both images turned out, although the sky is not as light as I tried to make it on the cover page.  The flowers are not as delicate as they could have been, but I like the shades of purple and I like how the reading girl turned out.  I expected that to be the most difficult.  ...

    This week,  I have worked on sketching out each image, first in pencil.  After I am satisfied with the pencil sketch I go over it in waterproof pen.  I have only gone over the mountain scene at the bottom in pen; the other images are still being sketched out.  While the cover page is hard as it is big and important, it is difficult to do the smaller images  on the content page.   I am not sure exactly how the text will fit.   I put the storyboard page over and measured out where the columns go.   Horizontally, I am confined by the columns, but I decided that vertically I could be roughly around the size from my storyboard.   I also went to Michael’s craft store again and bought different sized Micron pens.   I can use the thinner one for details and shading with lines while the larger one will make it much easier for outlines than the one I was using. (I have used the pens on other personal projects as well).  ...

       In class I brainstormed who I could interview for the feature article, which I had honestly not yet given as much thought as I probably should have.  I decided it would probably be beneficial to interview a psychologist to see what they would have to say about the effects of nature on mental state.   I would like to ask them if they recommend the outdoors to their patients.   I read through descriptions of each psychologist on the internet so I could try to learn what I could about their methods and if nature is a topic they would likely be knowledgeable about.   I found several I could reach out to that might entertain the idea of an interview and be able to first my narrative.   If their description mentioned natural medicine or healing I thought they would be a more likely candidate.   I wrote down their names and numbers to contact them.      I also went to Michael's Craft store to buy some supplies....
